1912, John Amedee Maserjian, an immigrant from Armenia, watches over his friend’s photographic shop, Arax Studios in Poughkeepsie, NY. With little English and no photographic knowledge, he tries to tape a tag to a box using a roll of film, wondering where the sticky side is. When the friend does not return, the self taught photographer expands his business into the Arax Photographic Company.
For 80 years and two more generations, the family run company thrives, providing services including professional photofinishing, camera sales, portrait studios, and framing.
2002, Steven Amedee Maserjian, grandson of John Amedee Maserjian, opens Steven Amedee Fine Custom Framing at 41 North Moore Street in Tribeca. The tradition of excellent service and craftsmanship continues.
