Warren Elwin
Making My Way Back
An alchemy of paper into paint
Exhibition opening reception with the artist, Wed., June 12th, 6pm - 8pm
Steven Amedee is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition of collage artworks by Warren Elwin.
Based in Aotearoa New Zealand, Elwin is an abstractionist ( by way of design \ through the kitchen ) who paints with paper, cutting and manipulating isolated forms from old fashion magazines, juxtaposing them back together to find new lyrical compositions of chance.
Using media and memories taken when he left New York City, the works belie their layered technique suggesting the natural environment, exploring negative space and echoing the magic of nature without immediately imitating it. Drawing you in close to the process and fragments of hidden gems.
‘Making My Way Back’ sees Warren return to NY for the first time in 10 years, with a show of recent NZ work inspired by lockdowns, biblical flood events, and the elegance of winter’s fallen camellia decay.
